Book 1
In book one of “Cry the Beloved Country” there are many
themes. There is one in particular that stands out. The main theme of book one
is being a father to everyone. In the book Stephen acts like a father to his sister
and his son, Absalom. He seems to be the male role model for everyone. He plays
a big role in this book. Also he is the person that keeps everyone in their
place and together. The theme of the book is parenting.
To start off, Stephen first helped his sister. As it says
in the book on page 61 “He goes to her and lifts her from the floor to the
chair. Inarticulately he strokes her face, his heart filled with pity.” This shows
how he will be there with here even after she has done to shame the family. On page
64 it says “Although his money was little, he bought her a red dress and a
white thing they called a turban for her head.” This shows how he will spend
his last on his family. Also it shows much his family is important to him. This
shows a good an example of the theme of this book.
Next, Stephen helps his son baby mother. He didn’t even
know here that much but he helped her anyways. On page 148 it say “I shall come
for you when everything is ready for the marriage. Shall I find you a place
near me? He walked on like a man from whom a pain has lifted a little, not
altogether, but a little.” This shows
how he is concerned about the girl. He wants her to be closer to him, so she
want be by herself. He is basically trying to take care of her for his son. He is
stepping up and is playing a father role.
Last, Stephan is trying to help his son. On page 133 it
says “Well, well, he says, we must go at once and see a lawyer.” He knew that his
son shot the man but he still is trying to help him the best way he can. His own
brother is telling him it is no use of getting a lawyer but he doesn’t listen
to the negative. He is trying to do everything he can for his son even if he
has to ask for help from others.
In
conclusion, the theme of this book is good parenting. Though out book one it’s
how Stephen is a great parent not only to his own child but to others that do
not belong to him. Stephen rescued his sister and her son from a bad environment.
Also he is trying to help his son with a crime he have done. Also he helps his
son baby mother. He is playing many father roles in this book. He is a very good
person. He is the main part of the theme. He has a big role in the book. Stephan
is the theme.

This I Believe
Words hurt
As a child people would pick on
me and call me names. I had very few friends. It was kind of like I was an
outcast. I thought everyone hated me, even the teachers. People picked on me
without knowing my background. They didn’t know what I went through at home. I
believe people shouldn’t down anyone. Words hurt just as well as sticks and
stones.
I thought they picked on because
they were hating.it wasn’t like I did anything to them. They just picked on me
for no reason at all. After a long day at school I would have to go home and
hear my mother talk about how I need to do better in school. She didn’t know
what was happening at school because I was too scared to tell her. I never told
my mother until I got older. Also I never told the teachers or the principal
because I felt as if they were against me too. I hated going to school every
day for a while. All I could do was hope for the best.
People shouldn’t pick on anyone at
all. You never know what that person has going on at home. Some people even
commit suicide because they are getting picked on. I thank god for letting me
be so strong to get through that rough patch in my life.
Now in days bullying is a big thing.
I hate seeing people around school getting picked on. I try to take up for the
people who are not able to defend their self. It hurts me every time when I see
how cruel people get. Most people pick on others to make their self feel
better. Now if someone tries to pick on me I just look over because I think
something is going on in their life, so they have to make everyone else’s hard.

Think 2
A Very Old Man
Daneshia Lockhart
Think 2
In
the story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings: A Tale for Children” by Gabriel
Marquez an old angel man had fallen into mud. A couple found him and put him in
their chicken coop. After the man came the couple sick child got well. The man
wings wouldn’t work right.
While
the man was in the chicken coop people would come by and throw him stuff. The couple
started charging people to do that. They saved all the money up and built them
a house. The man still stayed in the chicken coop. Slowly he started staying in the house. The man
was sick and couldn’t move. Then, one day the man started to fly away. The women
looked at him as the flied. She looked until she couldn’t see him anymore.
I
think the man helped the child get well. The man overcame his sickness as well.
Also I think the couple should’ve let the man stayed with them. They made him stay with the chickens even when
they were making money off him. At the
end I was happy that he was able to get up and fly.
In conclusion, the
story was kind of sad. At the end everything turned out right. He was finally
able to go free. He wasn’t stuck in the house or the chicken coop. He was down,
but he got back up after a while. This story
had many lessons in it.

Think
Student
Loans
Everyone
wants to be able to go to college. Most students depend on loans. I chose the
article “Student Loans: The Next Financial Crisis” because one day I would personally
like to go to college. President Obama
tries to make loans available to everyone. Instead, students are going into
debt. Last year the number of debt for
students rose. I would like to get through college with paying off loans. Students
shouldn’t have to pay off loans until they’re finish with college. Students are
going to be in more debt than ever.
In
today’s world anyone can get loan. For example: Josanne Baxter-English filed
for bankruptcy in 2003. Then in 2010 she visited the University of Phoenix, she
told them about her poor credit. They told her not worry all the loans will pay
it off. Some colleges miss lead people. Ms. Baxter dropped out a year later and
now owes $2,900 in student loans. She is unable to afford it. I think that before
someone get a loan; everything needs to be explained to them. Everyone doesn’t understand
what it means to take out a loan. Now more people owe student loans because they
didn’t understand.
Student
loans will cause a big problem in the United States. It could be the next
financial crisis. Student loans rate is higher than credit cards. The U.S.A.
should make a better system so people want be in so much debt. People should be
able to get an education for free. Students should only have to pay loans if they
don’t go to school every day and if they fail an exam.
As
you see student loans should make a better way of doing things. I would like to
go to college one day and not be in debt. Many people want to go to college but
can’t afford it.
